How does advertising provoke lust/envy?

This is the current title for my 4000 word dissertation. Changed into something completely different because of the lack of secondary sources with the previous idea.

I am in the process of deciding which to go for; Lust, or Envy...

They are both common in advertising. Lust being because sex sells...period, so finding sources for this would not be all that hard. Envy on the other hand will not be as straight forward, but it is more interesting, because of the society we live in today, which makes us more materialistic as human beings, envying that which makes other people "high value".

Maybe that's what it is about...gaining higher value for yourself.
